Creative Learning Academy at Breakthrough Theatre
What exactly is this program?
The Creative Learning Academy is a small, part-time learning program that meets two days a week. It focuses on building confidence, communication skills, writing ability, history, and critical thinking through theatre-based and project-based learning.
Is this a full school?
No—this is a hybrid program. Most families will be homeschooling or using another academic program, and this serves as a structured, in-person part of their week.
What about math and science?
Families continue math and science at home or through an online or hybrid program. This allows students to move at their own pace while we focus on writing, communication, and engagement.
What ages is this for?
The program is designed for students in grades 4th through 8th. This is a key developmental stage where students benefit greatly from confidence-building, collaboration, and creative expression.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes:
-
Theatre and performance activities
-
Writing and storytelling
-
History-based projects and discussions
-
Collaborative group work
Students are actively participating throughout the day—not sitting and listening for long periods.
What kind of student is this a good fit for?
This program is ideal for students who:
-
enjoy creative activities
-
benefit from smaller group settings
-
need more confidence or opportunities to express themselves
-
don’t always thrive in traditional classrooms
What if my child is shy?
That’s very common—and often where we see the most growth. The small group environment allows students to build confidence at their own pace in a supportive setting.
How many students are in the program?
We intentionally keep the group small—8 to 10 students—so each child receives personal attention and is actively involved.
Who is teaching the program?
The program is led by Wade Hair, a former Language Arts and History teacher and founder of Breakthrough Theatre Company, with extensive experience working with students in creative and educational settings.
Is this academically valuable?
Yes. While the program is creative in nature, it strongly develops essential skills including:
-
writing and communication
-
critical thinking
-
collaboration
-
public speaking
These are skills that support success across all academic areas.
How much does it cost?
Tuition is $400 per month for two days per week: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The small group size allows for a highly personalized and engaging experience.
Can we use Step Up scholarship funds?
Yes! We have been approved as a provider through Step Up For Students. Many families may be able to use scholarship funds or request reimbursement, depending on their program.
What makes this different from other programs?
Students are actively engaged in learning through performance, discussion, and collaboration. This creates a more meaningful and memorable learning experience compared to traditional lecture-based environments.
What is the goal of the program?
The goal is to help students become more confident, expressive, and engaged learners—while developing skills that will benefit them both academically and personally.
When does this class begin?
The Creative Learning Academy begins on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
